Rostock, 19. April 2013

On behalf of AIDA guests, the ships' crew, and the employees on land, Michael Ungerer, President of AIDA Cruises and Monika Griefahn, Director of Environmental and Social Issues at ADIA Cruises made a €100,000 donation to "SOS-Kinderdorf e.V.".

The organization will use the money to finance the renovation of the SOS Children's Village in Addis Abbeba, Ethiopia. This is home to 150 children whose parents have died or who live in abject poverty so that their families are no longer able to care for them.
"We want our donation to bring these disadvantaged children new hope. The SOS Children's Villages are able to give them a loving home and pave the way for a better future," emphasizes Michael Ungerer.

This donation comes from the proceeds of a raffle that the company holds every year on the AIDA club ships traditionally on New Year's Eve. "We are very happy to see that our guests are always more than willing to team up with AIDA year after year and do their part to help these little ones," says Monika Griefahn.

Supporting social and cultural projects is an important piece of the AIDA corporate culture and an issue that AIDA takes to heart. This is why the company regularly supports the non-profit organization "SOS-Kinderdorf e.V." with their global projects that help children in need.

"We are thankful to have AIDA on our side as a reliable partner. With the company's financial support, we will be able to renovate the SOS Children's Village in Addis Abbeba after nearly 30 years and really make a difference there," says Elke Tesarczyk, Deputy Director of the "SOS-Kinderdorf e.V.".
