AIDA Cruises builds school in the Philippines with the Reiner Meutsch Foundation FLY & HELP
In 2018 AIDA Cruises is continuing its ongoing commitment to social, cultural and charitable projects. On March 9, 2018, at the ITB in Berlin, Hansjörg Kunze, Vice President Communication & Sustainability, presented a check for 42,265 euros to the Reiner Meutsch Foundation FLY & HELP for the reconstruction of an elementary school in Dinagat in the Philippines. The donation is part of the money raised from a charity raffle that AIDA traditionally holds aboard the AIDA fleet on New Year’s Eve. Severe floods destroyed many schools in the region in December.
“Many of our employees aboard the AIDA fleet come from the Philippines, so working with the Reiner Meutsch Foundation to provide direct help on the ground and give children the chance to attend school is a matter very close to our heart,” Hansjörg Kunze, Vice President Communication & Sustainability said on presenting the check at the ITB in Berlin.
A continuous commitment to charitable projects is an important part of the AIDA corporate culture. Since 2005 the company has supported various SOS-Children’s Villages projects around the world with over one million euros. Mercy Ships, which among others offers urgently required medical treatment in crisis regions on board of the hospital ship “Africa Mercy”, does not alone receive financial aid, AIDA colleagues are also working as volunteers aboard. The six prize-winners of the Goldene Bild der Frau 2017 were also happy to receive support of 10,000 euros each from AIDA Cruises in recognition of their services to charity.
